WHO WE ARE

Who are we?

Girls Lobby is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that empowers high school girls to lobby the Utah state legislature. They equip high school-aged girls and gender non-conforming leaders for social advocacy through personal mentorship, public policy education, issue advocacy, and professional skill building. Through programming each legislative session, Girls Lobby has engaged with over 60 girls, 8 nonprofit partners, and over 10 legislative mentors.

What is our mission?

Our mission is to empower the next generation of female and gender non-conforming leaders through personal mentorship, public policy education, issue advocacy, and professional skill building.

Why do we do the work?

Young people don't need to be told that they can change the world. They only need to be taught how! At Girls Lobby, we believe girls are powerful. However, this power is not justly represented in Utah politics. Utah ranks 50th in the nation for women’s equality and 42nd for women’s political empowerment. Women comprise only 26% of the State Legislature. In 2018, only two State Senators were women of color.
